MacTheClapper - Clap your hands twice to execute an Applescript

I am proud to release a little side project of mine: MacTheClapper.

Description
: MacTheClapper is a small program running in your system menu that listens on your Mac’s builtin microphone and executes a user defined applescript when it detects a double clap (or finger snap) sound.

Download: mactheclapper.zip

Howto: Download the application and unzip. Start the program. A small “MC” icon will appear in your system menu. Click on the icon and choose “Settings”. A dialog will popup with wich you may configure MacTheClapper. Everything should be mostly self explanatory. Be sure to quit MacTheClapper and restart in case you changed the AppleScript command. Once you have configured MacTheClapper,  click “Start” in the MacTheClapper menu.  Clapping twice loud enough should now trigger the AppleScript command.

That’s it for now. Drop a comment if you liked the program or have some trouble using it.

For all of you who don’t know what the “clapper” is:

  1. Great! This should come in handy as an add-on in any home automation software. I have been thinking about this actually for a long time.
Just posting again, so you know some people actually read this stuff!

  2. I can’t use it however, clicking the button to edit the applescript doesn’t do anything… Where should I put the applescript?

  3. Hmm… Just put the script in “~/Library/Application Support/MacTheClapper/mactheclapper.script”. Hope it works now…

  4. Should I delete the original file “mactheclapper.script”? Or, how do I put it “in” there?
How should I correctly save the Applescript I made? (Sorry, pretty unexperienced in this) There’s more options

  5. Just replace the existing content of the file with your own script and save the file.

  6. But the “mactheclapper.script” won’t be opened bij applescript-editor… Sorry, if I’m doing it all wrong, I just recently started automating things in Automator, now I’d like to start using Applescript

  7. You can open it with any texteditor and just copy and paste the code from the applescript-editor. I think that “TextEdit” is installed on every Mac.

  8. So cool. Works like a charm!

  9. Glad to hear it works, don’t hesitate to file bug reports or send suggestions

  10. Well, it would be nice if you could set it to listen automatically as soon as it starts up. It would be more functional if it were constantly active in the background, so it could get triggered as soon as it hears you clap your hands.
That, plus maybe make the “set applescript” button open the script in TextEdit automatically.
